My Top 5 October Releases

October has arrived, and with it comes a wave of exciting new LEGO releases that will excite both builders and collectors alike. This month's lineup has something new for everyone, from long-awaited additions to well-known themes like Star Wars and DC to new partnerships from Nike. I'll be discussing my top 5 most anticipated releases and offering my opinions on whether these sets are actually worthwhile to add to your collection.

#1

My first pick is the Arkham Asylum from the Batman Arkham games. Although on the pricer side at £269.99, this set is an absolute treat for fans of both the Arkham series and Batman in general (if you have the money, of course). The design captures the dark, gothic atmosphere of Gotham perfectly, from the iconic front gates to the eerie towers and cells inside. It’s packed with minifigures, including some of Batman’s most notorious foes, and there are plenty of clever details and references that long-time fans will instantly recognise. The mix of architectural complexity and playability makes it appealing to both collectors and younger fans who just want to recreate dramatic scenes from the games. It’s definitely an investment, but if you’re a Batman enthusiast or someone who appreciates LEGO’s ability to blend storytelling with design, Arkham Asylum is one of the standout releases of October and worthwhile adding to your Lego collection.

Although it's not Christmas yet, not even Halloween, next up is one of the most festive and creative Star Wars sets we’ve seen: the Gingerbread AT-AT! This delightful twist on the Empire’s iconic walker blends the galaxy far, far away with some holiday cheer. This set is a brilliant example of LEGO’s playful creativity, proving that even the most fearsome Imperial vehicle can get into the Christmas spirit. The set also includes a whimsical minifigure, a gingerbread-inspired version of Darth Vader, adding a perfect finishing touch. While it’s smaller than some of the massive UCS Star Wars builds, this one stands out for its charm and seasonal display appeal. Whether you’re a dedicated Star Wars collector or just looking for something fun and festive to build during the holidays, the Gingerbread AT-AT is guaranteed to make you smile every time you look at it and would be a great Christmas set or a Star Wars set to add to your collection.

For the next pick, this set is for retro gaming fans. LEGO has done a great job with itself with the new LEGO Icons Game Boy set. This nostalgic build pays homage to one of the most beloved handheld consoles of all time, perfectly capturing the look and feel of the original 1989 Nintendo Game Boy. From the familiar grey casing and magenta buttons to the brick-built cartridge slot and printed screen tiles, every detail is designed to spark childhood memories for those older fans. The set also includes three buildable game cartridges: The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Land, and Tetris, with each featuring custom tile artwork that is just like the real thing. While it’s not a playable model, the attention to detail and nostalgia factor make it an instant must-have for collectors of both LEGO and Nintendo memorabilia. Whether you grew up with a Game Boy in your hands or you just appreciate a clever, retro-inspired build, this set is a great gift for anyone who likes the Game Boy, but if you aren't a fan, I'd skip this or wait for it to be on sale, as it is still a nice display set. Other than that, this set is a cool addition to October’s lineup.

One of the most exciting collaborations out of this October lineup comes from LEGO and Nike, a creative fusion of sport, style, and brick-building. This new set celebrates the culture of basketball through an eye-catching display featuring a bold red-and-white Nike sneaker mid-dunk, complete with a mini hoop and colourful backdrop inspired by the energy of the court. The design brilliantly captures Nike’s signature aesthetic while staying true to LEGO’s playful creativity. The shoe itself looks like it's made up of fun, smooth, curved panels that mimic real shoe textures, from the iconic Swoosh recreated entirely in bricks. More than just a display piece, this set represents a crossover between two worlds of creativity: LEGO’s love for design and Nike’s spirit of innovation. Whether you’re a sneakerhead, basketball fan, or just someone who appreciates standout LEGO collaborations, this set is a slam dunk for a stylish addition to your collection.

Finally, my last pick for this blog is the most expensive LEGO Star Wars set currently available, the Death Star, priced at a galactic £899.99. This massive build is a true collector’s dream, capturing the scale, detail, and drama of one of cinema’s most iconic locations. Designed as part of the Ultimate Collector Series. Although this set is a bit of a controversy for the prices and the fact that the Death Star is cut in half, the set is still packed with over 4,000 pieces and a stunning amount of interior detail spread across multiple levels, from the Emperor’s throne room to the detention block and the control room that houses the planet-destroying super laser. Every corner of this set tells a story, allowing builders to relive unforgettable moments from the original Star Wars trilogy. It includes an impressive line-up of minifigures from Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker to Stormtroopers, Imperial officers, and even a few droids, making it perfect for both display and play. The build itself is complex and deeply rewarding, offering hours (if not days) of immersive construction. At nearly £900, this isn’t a casual purchase; it’s an investment for serious fans and collectors. But the end result is nothing short of spectacular: a centrepiece that embodies the scale and imagination of the Star Wars universe. For anyone looking to take their LEGO collection to the next level, the Death Star reigns supreme as the ultimate build, and I would definitely say this would be wonderful for any Lego Star Wars collection. Although the price is extremely high, I would recommend you wait until it's on sale to snatch this setup.

October has proven to be an incredible month for LEGO fans, with a line-up that truly showcases the brand’s creativity and range. From the dark and atmospheric Arkham Asylum to the festive Gingerbread AT-AT, each set brings something unique to the table. Whether you’re into superheroes, gaming, sports, or intergalactic battles, this month’s releases prove that LEGO continues to push boundaries and celebrate creativity in every form. It’s an exciting time to be a fan, and these sets are perfect examples of why building with LEGO never gets old.

Until next time, keep building!
